God: “Be Ye Perfect.” Moses: “Well, what if it doesn’t resonate with me?”

God: “I am perfect and holy. What else can I create but perfection and holiness? All that I create is perfect and holy. In particular, I create you as perfect and holy. Notice that I do not condemn you for a small speck that obscures your perception. I declare you blameless. Any speck must be the perfect speck for you to perfectly remove from your own perception. I should know. I put it there, right?”

Moses: “Yeah, but, I don’t want to lose these great people….”

God: “Of course not. You appreciate those who are familiar to you. However, I did not create you to fear. Forget your worry of loss. Be grateful without fearing loss and your gratitude will be enough. Go to your people and tell them this:”

1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto all the company of the sons of Israel, and tell them, “Ye are holy, for holy am I, Jehovah, your God.”

Moses: “You want me to say out loud in public to a bunch of people ‘I am holy because I am your God?’ What if they reject me? Don’t you think that some of them may shudder with vile spirits like in that other Bible story?”

God: “Absolutely. However, if you love me, then you will love them. Do not fear them. Love them. Just tell them that you speak for me and that I declare them to be perfect and holy. I command it.”

Moses: “Well, okay, but what if it just doesn’t resonate with me?”

God: “Do you want me to make another bush explode in to flames again?”

Moses: “No, I got the message the first time. I will go tell them right away!”

Barnes’ Notes on the BibleBe ye therefore perfect … – The Saviour concludes this part of the discourse by commanding his disciples to be “perfect.”[as in HEALED, WHOLE] This word commonly means “finished, complete, pure, holy.” Originally, it is applied to a piece of mechanism, as a machine that is complete in its parts. Applied to people, it refers to completeness of parts, or perfection, where no part is defective or wanting.
