A warning about medical marijuana for anti-inflammatory “benefits”

It is important to be careful of remedial approaches and the hysteria that often goes with them. Marijuana inhibits cytokines (interfering with the process of inflammation, which is a HEALING process). See citation below.

Blocking future inflammation may sound like a good thing to someone desperate for pain relief. Regarding pain relief, it is a good thing. blocking pain signals may also be deemed “good.” However, if you value health, then blocking the body’s ability to produce inflammation (to spark healing) could be “VERY BAD.”

It is like “fixing” the warning light in you car that says “engine needs attention” by impairing the warning light. The light itself was never the issue (probably). The engine is the issue (or at least is worth checking).

So, the best way to counter existing inflammation is to give the body what it really needs- exactly what it is calling for with the *effect* of producing inflammation: providing electrons (such as through anti-oxidants or alkaline substances). However, there are smart and dumb ways to “promote health.” The vast majority of ways that are promoted by the mainstream media or schools are incredibly inefficient or even counter-productive.

My citation re marijuana impairing cytokine function:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/rele…/2008/07/080720222549.htm

“The hemp plant contains over 450 different substances, only three of which are responsible for its intoxicating effect. They activate the two receptors in the body CB1 and CB2. Whilst the CB1 receptor in the central nervous system influences perception, the CB2 receptor in the tissue plays a crucial role in inhibiting inflammation. If the receptor is activated, the cell releases fewer pro-inflammatory signal substances, or cytokines.”
