LITERAL INTERPRETATIONS

LITERAL INTERPRETATIONS

In the beginning, there was no one

not even one word to speak of

no boundaries, no labels
just patterns, all passing through
no filters, no models
no ideals of what to do

Then someone with a big mouth
bit off more than he could chew
dividing day… from the night
inventing darkness… as lack of light
creating heavens, defining earth
but these are only real… as mere words!
there’s no real darkness, silence, or blindness
only presence or absence of sight
a so-called baldness can label the hairless…
baby’s head, till the baldness grows up and hides inside for a while
and the incurable illness of a diagnostic label
is just a demon possessing your tongue.
Is it better to rip out that demon
or summon it daily as your favorite curse?
Those who claim their possession by blindness
are possessing it with their ritual claims.
Some claim glaucoma, yet their vision clears.
So, do you see what I mean? Or do you claim deafness possesses your ears?
It’s all symbolic, poetic, prophetic-
new sacred myths of creative art.
Lit’ral interpretations are for foolish fools
who don’t even know what the word interpret means!
Well, at least that’s one possible interpretation…
literally speaking
So, you’ve heard some rules for how to stay happy
and some of them are warnings so you won’t be sorry
for complications you can bring
by lying or stealing or cheating
with the wife of a jealous raging king
But seek first the priority goal
of noticing the boundless, eternal, everywhere, all-powerful
unity far beyond words
(which are just labels on the branches of a tree)
Trees

Notice the tree is each branch
and the tree is in each branch
ruling the growth of the leaves
guiding all activities of every branching
every perfect form made as one “image” of the tree

Beware of claiming one branch is greater than the tree…
or making up idols by worshiping some leaves.
Also, if you love the tree,
you’ll love each branch and each leaf!
But you bite off more than you can chew
if you say “you’re the devil, Eve!”
Now, just spit that bitter fruit out
whenever that bad taste’s in your mouth
for blaming someone else
for not fitting your ideal

repent of your blind idealism
don’t worship labels like darkness
worship what is real:

the boundless, eternal, everywhere, all -powerful
unity far beyond words
which label branches of one tree
like many rooms of one house
like two sides of the same leaf

there is no boundary between you and life
no higher power threatening the divine

If you fear a devil, then you worship that devil

So, repent of your worrying, for it won’t bring you faith
repent of agonizing, for it won’t earn you grace
For grace is not earned; it’s like a fruit that gets ripe.
Stop rushing God (like you know better… when the timing’s right)!

You silly hypocrite
you made literal interpretations in to your idols
you turned your back on God
to proudly thump your bibles
But that, my friends, is the classic path to humility
we go through frightened, raging arrogance to get to that clarity, that unity

so, rejoice in this good news… and give thanks
for our sins and shames were innocent mistakes
in the perfect eyes of God who creates it all
(maybe with a little bit of trial and error….)

Now, let us repent of our religion of terror
for God, not tradition, is the only savior

“Wow, that is just fantastic… really, really fantastic… you know, for someone like you.”

In the beginning, there was no one

not even one word to speak of
no boundaries, no labels
just patterns, all passing through
no filters, no models
no ideals of what not to do

Then someone with a big mouth
bit off more than he could chew
