song video: “a sinner’s prayer”

I sang a song to the God of words                         saying “please give me all that I ask for
a brand new life with only what I like                 missing all the things that shouldn’t be in mine.”

There must be some kind of mistake here, right?
I mean, whose life is this supposed to be anyway?
Who you are trying to fool with all these messy details?
God, you really should be ashamed of yourself- I really don’t know what the hell you were thinking….

I said my prayers asking forgiveness                of whatever I did to deserve all this
I apologize for all of my crimes                         Now, if I just plead guilty, won’t you let me go free?

I sang a song to the magic God                       saying “grant me more wishes, Santa Claus
The genie said, “Look, that’s just a myth          a fairy tale that we tell to kids.”

Lord, I just thank you that I am not like those other people
arrogant, aloof, foolish and evil
I pay my taxes on time and I eat kosher
plus I report all of my bribery to the local warlord of the lobbyist club

Then Jesus said, “Now that is what I call a punk.

He may be sincere, as in ignorantly innocent,
but sincerity is not accuracy or potency.
He may repeat the words of faith like an infant babbling or a parrot
but speaking some words is distinct from direct comprehension
like just saying the word carrot is distinct from eating a carrot

Luke 18:9-14

9And he told this parable against those men who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and they held contempt for everyone: 10“Two men went up to The Temple to pray: one a Pharisee and the other a Tax Collector.” 11The Pharisee was standing alone by himself and he was praying these things: “God, I thank you that I am not like other men: extortioners, oppressors, adulterers, and not like this Tax Collector.” 12“But I fast twice in a week and I tithe everything that I possess.” 13“But that Tax Collector was standing from a distance and he would not even lift his eyes up to Heaven, but he was smiting on his chest and he said, ‘God, have pity on me, a sinner.’ “ 14“I say to you that this one went down to his house justified rather than that Pharisee, for every man who exalts himself shall be humbled, and everyone who humbles himself shall be exalted.”
