no such thing… as original sin?

NO SUCH THING (as Original Sin)
Life should be how life should be, so life should not be so much like this.
I should be how I should be, so I should not be so much like this.
She should be how she should be, so she should not be so much like this.
We should be how we should be, so we should not be so much like this.
Now, who is going to fix all this mess which we made up by labeling all this a mess?
and how will they ever fix all this mess which we made up by labeling all this a mess?
who can we blame for making all this mess which we made up by labeling all this a mess?
who can we hate for not fixing this mess which we made up by labeling all this a mess?
Is the original sin the naming of a sinner or just the naming of a sin?
Eve should be how Eve should be, so Eve should not be be so much like this.
Evil should be how Evil should be, so Evil should not be be so much like this.
There should be no such thing as Evil and no such thing as blame
There should be no such thing as labels and no such thing as hate
There should be no such thing as what should be and no such thing as sin
There should be what should be and nothing else; things should not be so much like this.

Now, who is going to fix all this mess which we made up by labeling all this a mess?
and how will they ever fix all this mess which we made up by labeling all this a mess?
who can we blame for making this mess which we made up by labeling all this a mess?
who can we hate for not fixing this mess which we made up by labeling all this a mess?

These lyrics were inspired by Virginia Satir, who said: “Life is not the way it is supposed to be. It is the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference. ” (She is widely regarded as the “Mother of Family Therapy.”)

My friend Andy Timans reminded me of that quote today. Thanks, Andy. I also wish to thank youtube user WhiteWolf1088, whose self-inquiry and communication is what prompted me to create and share today.

Now, I actually sang the following additional lyrics while making the video. These were not planned. I actually mis-read the lyrics of the first verse (“life should be how life should be”) as “life should not be how life should be” and I realized in that moment that it worked, so I went with it. Here is how it went in the video:

Life should not be how life should be; life should be just like this.
I should not be how I should be; I should be just like this.
She should not be how she should be; she should be just like this.
We should not be how we should be; we should be just like this….”

So, while I wrote this guitar chord sequence in 2008 (which is why I so adept at improvising with it) and wrote similar lyrics back in the mid-1990s, this song marks a new level of artistry in my own personal history.

Thanks for the link! Two observations:

    1. Names limit.

    2. We have always believed in the dragon — what we need is a St. George.
