this one’s for the good guys                    and the bad guys and all the rest

we tell stories of victims           saved by heroes from the villains

we call them fables, myths and legends  and the history of our identity, you know the real reality

and we love the label hero          but we fear the label villain

so if someone names us villain      then of course we claim to be their victim

(hey, now hadn’t you ever been framed      and ain’t it just the most heinous crime?)

every story has more versions     than the one I choose to tell

mine is always best though          most sincere and most complete

the good guys always win             and the good guy is always me

so this one’s for the good guys                    and the bad guys and all the rest

though we all know what makes a story good       is sexy damsels in distress

You know that story of a victim who was framed by evil villains?

I forget just what his name is, but it’s really famous. He believes that he’s in hell.

Then there’s one story of a victim who gets rescued by a savior.

Jesus, come on, you’ve heard it, right? Something about heaven and dead people who can’t die.

Well, then there’s the evil of our enemy, their corrupt government and sensationalist media

I sure am glad our heroes protect us from such contrived paranoid hysteria

The opposition is so belligerent, antagonistic, unintelligent.

Yes, it’s the same divisive story that’s told by every side.

so here’s to the good guys                    and the bad guys and all the rest

though we all know what makes a story good       is sexy damsels in distress
